2004-10-28 Hi ^_^v Yay! I'm in! Yesyesyesyes. Yeah to facilitate HM's depature on Wednesday, an announcement was made on Monday indirectly regarding the release of the election results. While meant to be shown to the nominees on Tuesday and publicly announced on Wednesday, both dates were shifted forward by one day. But first, I shall tell you about Election Day. Yes there was a video. Quite nice. 31 Candidates. 534 posters (of which 100 were mine). Then they showed lots of different candidates' posters. Mine was shown first, lol. The diamond shaped one. Then they showed all the photos taken the day CTs ended. After that they just rolled all the 30-second campaign videos. Haha, Tan Si Kai was so funny. His speech was horrible, but he had friends in the background, which was quite unique. And at the end, he started eating a chunk of durain. Hilarious. Spirit without substance leads one in circles. Unfortunately, the sound quality for mine wasnt very good. Very muffled due to the echoes caused by the enclosed Junior Block area. Hmm. Oh well. Udomkichdecha Sarun (think I got the spelling right) had an "Us" card around his neck. "Us", standing for his initials. Yan Sheng had his "Sheng" (victory) card. Michael Bin had his bin. Haha. After that, voting took place. Supposed to shade in the ovals on an OAS form, according to who you wanted to vote for. Each candidate had a number. Mine was 10. So when voting was finished, the forms were submitted in boxes colour-coded according to level. Later on in the day, approaching lunch time, the announcement was made over the PA system. All prefect nominees were to meet in LT2 at 1.35pm. So we went to LT2, at first not sure about the reason why we were gathering there. The announcement had merely stated that all prefect nominees were to meet in LT2 at 1.35pm. But we all kinda knew that the results were going to be released. The whole of the RIPB ExCo was there, and there was an OHP, and YH1 was there too. First off, Mr. Lim talked about some stuff, though I've forgotten most of it now due to excitement. I remember something about everyone there having leadership qualities, and that if one didn't get in, he should not take it too hard and continue to contribute to the school even if not through the RIPB. Then all the results were revealed at once, unlike the other time where they were shown one by one. 14 out of 18 Sec 1s became prefects that day. And I was one of them. I was really happy that all the hard work I had put in had paid off. On this note, I'd like to thank everyone who helped me in my campaign in one way or another. Without your support, I doubt that I would have been able to succeed in the elections. Thanks to all of you. You guys rock! Sadly, Jerome didn't make it. It feels really bad to be so happy about something about which someone else is so sad. Jerome deserves to be in the Board more than some other people, and that's VERY obvious. He put in much more effort than these "some other people", and it thus occurs as a mystery to me and many other candidates why he didn't get in. Justin Ho was booed when the Newly Elected Prefects were announced and it was his turn to go on stage. He was crying. Poor Jerome. Miss Sim told him about being strong, and said "No tears". Is crying really a mark of frailty? I don't think so. Just about anyone would feel as sad as he was if placed in his situation. Well, if he tries again next year, I'm going to help him. I'm sure many of the other Newly Elected Prefects would do the same. Go Jerome! Oh, and Ben Tay is going to try again next year too. Haha. Michael Bin received the loudest applause when he went on stage. What could you expect after that song? Haha. I think my campaign speech also helped in garnering a high amount of support. It feels great to be cheered for almost as loud as Michael Bin was. ^_^v Anyway, Jia Hao, Gareth, Yan Sheng, Will and I helped Miss Sim put up a piņata on Tuesday. Mr. Lim busted it open yesterday. Guess what. I have the head! Gave the base to will. It was actually a horse, but now looks more like the head of the RI Gryphon. Hahas. Mr. Wong was given a grand depature ceremony yesterday. At the end, all the students lined up in rows to shake his hand, all the way from the stage, to the back hall exit, to the track, and to the clock tower, where Mr. Chow was wearing sunglasses and rocking in a gold convertible, waiting to bring Mr. Wong for a ceremonial drive. Haha. Though us Sec 1s have only known Mr. Wong for less than a year, I'm sure we're all going to miss him as much as he will miss RI. I wonder if Mr. Bob Koh will give half-days and celebratory makans. Hope so. In any case, Good luck Mr. Wong! Haha. Ok I'll write more soon. Prefects' Retreat coming up on 6 Nov. Going to the Riviera Bay Resort, Malacca! Hahas. Ok then. Takkaires. C previous - next |
